The region is made up of towns and villages that were once under the rule of the Carthusian Monastery of Escalade. Its uniqueness lies in its climate, orography and geology. Torres\u2019 internationally acclaimed wines owe much of their character to the region\u2019s black llicorella slate soils. In the mid-1990s, Torres planted vineyards in Porrera and El Loar, where the winery was later to be built, and waited 10 years to start using some of the plots. Today, more than two decades after the first plantings, the vines are firmly established, each with its own special characteristics. To make Salmos, they chose the beautiful La Giberga vineyard, located in the municipality of Porrera.<br \/>This wine is a tribute to the monks of the courageous Carthusian order who arrived in the Priory in 1095, where they cultivated vineyards. In 1835, a riotous mob destroyed their life\u2019s work and sacked the monastery, events that later culminated in an auction of church lands known as the \u201eDesamortizaci\u00f3n de Mendiz\u00e1bal\u201d.
