Napanook, Yountville Napa Valley 2012

117.91 €

Region: California

Made exclusively from grapes grown at the historic Napanook Vineyard in Yountville, Napanook is selected from blocks of vines carefully selected for their fresh grapes, soft tannins and early ripening characteristics. The wine is designed to be enjoyed young and paired with food, but will also age well for over a decade. Dominus Estate, Yountville, California, was established in 1983 by Christian Moe. Located next to the famed Napanook Vineyard, it was the source of grapes for some of the best Napa Valley wines in the 1940s and 1950s. In fact, the vineyard’s history can be traced back to the beginnings of Napa Valley, when George Yount, for whom the town of Yountville is named, first planted vines there in 1838. Today, this historic vineyard produces three wines: Dominus, its flagship, Napanook and Othello. The vineyard is cultivated entirely without irrigation, allowing the vines to take full advantage of the unique geology of the land. Viticulture and winemaking are carried out with great care, with the aim of producing clean, balanced and complex wines. Minimal intervention during the selection, fermentation and ageing process of the grapes preserves the typical characteristics of the fruit. The resulting wines, with enormous ageing potential, convey the character of this historic vineyard. Renowned for its complexity and balance, Dominus demonstrates the potential of a wine produced in an exceptional terroir. Structured, expressive and perfectly integrated, Dominus is an elegant wine that improves with age.

Description

Color: Bright ruby color.
Fragrance: A tempting nose of red fruit with pleasant cherry notes. „The second wine from Napanook for 2012, has a similar profile to Dominus, but certainly seems less nuanced and a little less concentrated and deep compared to its older sister. This reflects the fact that the selection process has become so important that the second wine at Dominus is truly special in the best vintages of the last 10 years like 2012 or 2013.
Taste: The wine has low acidity, beautiful ripe black cherry and blackcurrant, a hint of cigar tobacco and a touch of roasted herbs on the finish. It can develop over the next 15-20 years. "(RP) (10/2015)
Aging: Entirely hand-harvested, the wine ferments at a controlled temperature and ages in oak barrels for 18 months.
Serving temperature: 14°-16° Food pairing: Great with Spaghetti Bolognese, roast
lamb, young veal and simply cooked red meats.
Storage potential: up to 15-20 years.
